Sprout | Nine Months

Sprout,

Although it sometimes seems like the dark, cold, winter days pass slowly, the months with you are flying by! I can’t believe it is time to already be thinking about your FIRST birthday. How can it be? 9 months looks good on your baby boy. Happy 3/4 of a year! We love you so. With each and every passing day you reveal more of that sweet personality. You continue to be so snuggly and smiley…unless you are teething you are pretty much the happiest kid in town!

At your nine month check up you clocked in at 17lb 14oz and are 27.5 inches long. That put you in about the 20something percentile for both. You didn’t have any shots, but they did take some blood to test for anemia. You took that needle like a champ & hardly cried. And although you were really tough, bad news buddy….you tested positive, so we are upping your iron intake with some daily supplements and they will test you again at your one year appointment. Bummer.

You are currently taking 2 naps a day (roughly 9:00 and 1:00) for about 1.5 – 2 hours each. I hate to even write it down because I’m worried I’ll jinx us, but you are going on about a week of sleeping through the night (11-12 hours). Let’s keep it up little one!

Your teeth continue to pop through. You got the two up on top right after Christmas! With all those teeth we continue to add to your menu. I’ve decided I’m not making to many more purees and we are going to dive into whole foods, baby led weaning style. You are pretty good at steamed and cubed sweet potatoes, apples, and pears. You find muffins delicious and even taste tested grilled cheese. We will keep adding to the list. I hope you are a great eater like your dad and big sister!

You started army crawling December 15th and are really sharpening your skills…buddy, you are fast! We are having to be very diligent about keeping the floor picked up of all little things because you can spot a scrap from a mile away (your favorite of which is paper). Before we know it you are off and it’s in your mouth in 2 seconds flat! You get up on your hands and knees a lot (starting Jan. 2), but for now you mostly rock back and forth, take a few “steps” and then it’s back down to your tummy. I have a feeling by the time we update everyone at 10 months you will be officially crawling. You’ve also started taking a few steps if holding onto our fingers (Jan. 3). Keeping it in the movement category…it’s getting VERY hard to change your diaper lately…I essentially have to lay you down on the floor and hold you with my feet to keep you from flipping over!

You are starting to be very communicative. You like babbling and hearing your own voice. You also love interacting with others by leaning in the give hugs and sloppy kisses. I also think you are starting to wave…I’ve got to do a few tests to confirm though :)

We celebrated Christmas this month and we must admit you were our greatest gift this year. We are so lucky God chose us to be your & Chickadee’s parents. I love seeing this time of year through the wonder in yall’s eyes. We travelled over 1000 miles in 11 days and you did GREAT! We were off of our routine and you were passed around a lot, but buddy I’m so proud of you because you handled it all with flying colors. We started in Mobile where you were loved on by daddy’s family and then journeyed up to Oneonta to see Mama’s family. You participated in all the traditions like the Christmas Eve service and setting out cookies for Santa. We put ornaments on the Jesse tree and read about the greatest gift of all, Baby Jesus. I can’t wait for the day you come to know baby Jesus as your Lord and Savior! After a few days in Oneonta we ventured back to Georgia and to Lake Oconee with Pop’s family. Besides a few middle of the night wake up calls you really handled all the craziness like a champ!

This past weekend (Jan 8-10) was also a big one for you! Mama went out of town and it was just dad and the kiddos for the weekend. I had just enough milk stored up in the freezer to get you through. Dad said you did really great & he even got you started on your sleeping through the night streak. I missed you like crazy and I could tell when I got home from all the smiles and giggles you missed me too! You are so lucky to have such a fantastic dad who loves you to pieces and is willing to get his hands dirty (sometimes literally) as he enjoys the journey of fatherhood.

We love you little man!

  • I enjoy reading so much about your little family. You and husband are wonderful parents. Sprout and Chicadee are beautiful children. Raised by Christian parents they will do well. God watches over us and protects the little ones. I can’t help but think back to the BEST time in my life. It was when I was a stay at home Christian wife and Mom. The joy of our son. My husband loved Matt to death! Supporting him from bed time stories to sports through High School. Yes, that was when I was the happiest. Being a Mom and wife was so fulfilling! I am enjoying four grandchildren now. What a blessed life.
