DIY Birthday Card using Washi Tape

It seems every time The Plaid Barn or Pick Your Plum enters my inbox offering a fabulous deal on washi tape, I become like Sheldon Cooper in a comic book store (Big Bang Theory anyone?)! This simple idea of patterned tape has me hooked! With the use of washi tape you can dress up a sticky note, add pizzazz to a simple banner, create a card display, dress up a holiday treat, and of course create, from the heart, homemade cards!
I’m back again to share with you my most recent card idea that I created for my dad’s birthday! It doesn’t really need a tutorial, as you can see…just a few supplies and about 5 minutes.
Tear off long strips for the candles…and cut out flames from some yellow or orange tape! I found the happy birthday stamp at Hobby Lobby (the greatest place on Earth) and used my 40% off coupon to get a steal of a deal! Finally, top it off with a little baker’s twine (if you don’t have any on had, check out this DIY baker’s twine tutorial) and you have a card straight from the heart! Because you know no matter how old you are parents always love a good homemade gift (even at 28!).
So do you make your own cards or let Hallmark do the work?
Linking up to a few of my favorite parties!

I made my own version of this card this weekend and it turned out super cute! Thanks for the inspiration!!
This is adorable!! I just recently bought a bunch of washi tape with no idea what to do with it! Now at least I have one cute and simple idea. As for what I do for cards, I try to buy multi-packs or the cute cards from Target’s $1 section so that I always have one on hand! I also make photo cards using PicMonkey (I’ve posted about it on my blog)… Thanks for the post!
so cute and creative

That is so fun! I love the bright colors.
I don’t do my own or buy them… b/c I just forget about birthdays! {trying to remedy that…}
