A Clear Choice
When III and I put together our wedding slideshow I managed to conveniently leave out about 8 years of my childhood. From about 4th grade to my senior year in high school were missing….want to know why? BRACES my friends. Because an awkward girl in braces is the last thing I wanted going down in the vaults of wedding slideshow history.
9 years….
That is how much of my life was spent balling up wax, fastening rubber bands, brushing in between the wires. I suppose it is a rite of passage for most teens these days, but really…9 years. That is almost 1/3 of my life. I truly had quite the mouth dilemmas An extra tooth, 18 baby teeth pulled/6 permanent, an over bite the lovely headgear couldn’t fix, jaw surgery, impacted wisdom teeth. You name it, come cry on my shoulder friends, because I’ve been there. III always says while I have a lot of qualities he hopes our future kids possess…my teeth antics are not one of them.
I do have to admit on my second round of braces (yes I went through the depressing experience twice) I got the “clear brackets.” Anyone remember those? My 17 year old, naive self thought nobody would notice them. Yet, here they are in all their glory!
Kids (and adults for that matter) these days however, have a better alternative to braces. Today anyone can get beautiful straight teeth without having to battle wax and wires? The geniuses at Invisalign have a CLEAR solution. And since they have straightened over 2 Million Smiles to date, I have no doubt they know what they are doing.
After doing a little research I’ve learned all about the benefits of Invisalign over braces. To begin with they are hardly noticeable unless your friends were giving you a once over with a magnifying glass. Also, you can TAKE THEM OUT. Doesn’t the Laffy Taffy lover in your appreciate that? The costs are comparable to braces & most insurances will cover part of the cost. It’s a win win for everyone if you ask me!

So are you int the braces club? Can anyone compare to being “wired” for 9 years???
I’d love to hear your story, and you can join me in wishing Invisalign was around when we were kids.
Oh wow! What an ordeal! I was lucky enough to avoid braces, but my daughter's shaping up to have quite the interesting dental history already at 7. Well, at least I know she won't be alone!
My son just got his braces, but soon it will be my daughter's turn..ack! Thanks so much for this post!
I had braces for 6 years, including the dreaded headgear! It was not cute. :)
It's time for my daughter to get braces!! She's 13 and I'm dreading it!!
I always wanted braces in elementary school but obviously had NO idea what was involved! I'm pretty sure there are braces in my boys' futures, so I'll definitely look into Invisalign!
I had my first round of braces for all four years of high school. September of 9th grade until the day before prom :-( Now I am 28 and have braces again (It will be 2 years in February) and just had double jaw surgery (jaw wired shut for 6 weeks) to fix what those four years of braces in HS was supposed to fix. So I can definitely sympathize with you. It is even less fun to be an adult with braces than a teen with braces.
