Uganda Bound

Our bags are packed, we’re ready to go…

Today is the day!!
In about 12 hours we will be leaving on a jet plane bound for Kitende, Uganda (via London) & the Sozo Children orphanage.

I’m am in great anticipation of all God will show us during our time in Uganda, & how He will use us to love on these children. I often wonder why my circumstances are they way they are. Why I was born to two loving parents, great family, have had great opportunities, and now the ability to travel around the world on a mission trip…while others situations are so different. However, a dear friend suggested that maybe I’m am in this situation so that I can go and show these children how much God loves them, to make his love tangible…huggable. He loves them so much that he would send one of his disciples around the world to show them that it is <------------------THIS------------------> much. We are accountable for the knowledge, resources, abilities, etc. that God has blessed us with, and I know that because God has given me so much, much is required of me in the spreading of the gospel & His love. (Luke 12:48). I like that in this verse Luke uses the word required…not asked, suggested, or even expected, but REQUIRED. Wow, how that tugs at my heart. I ask for prayers that I would be open, that I would listen, and that I would say yes, when I hear exactly what is going to be required for me while in Uganda.

Another verse that has been on my heart in preparing for this trip is from James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after A)”>orphans and widows B)”>in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. I don’t think that we are all called to travel around the world, to adopt orphans, or take in a woman who has lost her husband…but I do know that we are all asked to do something. As followers of Christ we are to be people of action. Leaving this world a better place, a place where God’s love overflows in abundance. I’ve mentioned before a book I’ve read entitled Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption. It’s a remarkable story about how God can use each and every one of us if we are just willing to say YES. In her story Katie mentions a stat that I can’t shake, a stat that makes even stronger the tug towards adoption on my heart, a stat that calls us into action, to do something…pray, sponsor, adopt, feed, volunteer, go

“The truth is that the 143 million orphaned children and the 11 million who starve to death or die from preventable diseases and the 8.5 million who work as child slaves, prostitutes, or under horrific conditions and the 2.3 million who live with HIV add us to 164.8 million needy children. And though at first glance that looks like a big number, 2.1 billion people on this earth proclaim to be Christians. The truth is that is only 8% of the Christians would care for one more child, there would not be any statistics left…..and the truth is that God loves these children just as much as He loves me and now that I know, I am responsible.”
I know this post is a little deeper that I usually go on this mostly DIY blog, but I promise it’s from the heart. So I just simply ask today that you love your neighbor, offer your kids a little more grace, hug your spouse a little tighter, and too let God’s love flow through you to those you are around. You don’t have to be on the other side of the world for God to work through you, you just simply have to say YES.

While I am gone I have some fabulous ladies sharing how God has used them, what He has taught them, and how He has shown up in their lives.Again a little off the path from what you are used to seeing, but worth sticking around for. Please give them some A Step in the Journey love while I’m away!! I’m so happy to have them hanging out while I am away.
