Headboard Love

So I’ve been cut off….with summer coming to a close & our “other” budget (i.e. crafts, around the house, what meets my heart’s desire) is reaching it’s max, my current house projects are being roped in by the Mr.
Now this is not to say that I won’t keep creating; it just means I have to be a little more
creative in my material selection :)
So, when I decided last week, it was finally time for a headboard in the guest room…I started thinking of the most inexpensive way to handle this delima. And what did I come up with, you might ask?
Well, I’d love to answer that question! Old wood…I’m currently LOVING all the distressed furniture out there & wanted to bring that element into the design. So after a quick phone call to my Handy Daddy, and a request for any old wood lying around. III & I were ready to create!
First, III cut each piece to around 60″(but not perfectly). We wanted to keep the rustic look, remember :) And let me give hubs a little props here, because he did it all with a hand saw.
(I think I know just the thing to get him for Christmas though)
Next, each plank received a few coats of white paint.
After they dried, everyone went for a round of rough sanding with last year’s Christmas present,
an electric sander! Then each got a great rub down.
However, they didn’t feel quite as “aged” as I was hoping for, so I grabbed some brown paint & diluted it with water. I did a once over on all the boards, going back about 30 seconds later & wiping it off.
Perfecto.
Finally, I used one of the scrap pieces to create a little word art, BLESSED.
(And of course, cut out the letter with Mr. Silhouette.)

{**This just in: the sign in our bedroom says Blessed, must be a laps in memory…I don’t think I’m old enough for this. Will change…one day}

She got a sanding too.
Once all the planks were dry & sealed we attached them to two 2×4 with finishing nails. I don’t have pictures of this part since it was dark by now. Do you ever get in one of those moods where you start a project & you are just dying to finish it in the same day. Done.
Last but not least we screwed her to the bed frame, and…

Problem solved…just in time for our next guests.
The BEST part: the lovely guest room edition..it was FREE!!

Linking up to these awesome parties!!
