Take a Moment
Do you ever feel you just need to stop and take a breath?
This time of year puts me in a frenzy between all of the shopping, hosting, partying, wrapping, giving, decorating, baking…etc. Don’t get me wrong, this is truly is “the most wonderful time, of the year,” but sometimes I get so caught up in the commotion, that I forget what it’s all about. This weekend I was reminded.
As my grandmother, aunts, mom, sister, and cousin’s paths converged in Hilton Head, SC, I was able to step back from the Christmas chaos and remember the best gift of all.
My aunt turned 60 this month. Her daughters had been planning for months…secret emails and phone calls, the ordering of tickets to a play, and coordinating of schedules. Finally, the surprise weekend came and were able to spill the beans. My aunt Lane thought she was coming down to Hilton Head to see her daughter while my uncle played golf, but that was the ploy. As she walked into the living room, we yelled “Happy Birthday,” and she stood there in shock. It was great. This weekend we shopped, ate, talked, went to see Hello! Dolly, and enjoyed time together. I’m grateful for a relaxing weekend to pause and remember the hope that came to us through a new family in a stable in Bethlehem, and how God continues to bless me with the most precious gift, family!
